Asbestos-free stuffing box packing

Asbestos-free sealing materials have appeared on the Russian market relatively recently. Despite the objective advantages of non-asbestos materials in comparison with asbestos, currently in the Russian Federation, asbestos continues to be used in the production of friction materials (brake pads and linings for clutch discs in cars), refractory and heat-insulating materials (special panels, fabrics), special technical paper , as well as in the building materials industry for the manufacture of asbestos-cement slabs, pipes, etc.

Today, for a number of truly objective reasons, a quick rejection of the use of asbestos is not possible. But already more than 100 countries in the world have legally banned the use of asbestos-containing products on their territory. Gradually, in Russia, asbestos-containing materials are being replaced with asbestos-free products.

Our company offers the following types of non-asbestos sealing materials:

- Asbestos-free stuffing box packings made of thermally expanded graphite. The body of the packing is made of thermally expanded graphite (TEG) yarn. The packing can have reinforcements in the body such as glass fiber, aramid, carbon fiber or metal wire. The packing can have a corner braid of more durable non-asbestos fibers, an outer knitted or braided jacket made of metal wire (Inconel, copper, steel). To impart the required properties to the packing, various types and types of impregnations, inhibitors, antifriction and lubricating components can be used.

- Asbestos-free stuffing box packing made of polytetrafluoroethylene (fluoroplastic). The body of the stuffing box is made of polytetrafluoroethylene yarn, PTFE. There may be a compensating silicone core in the body of the packing. The packing can have a corner braid made of stronger non-asbestos fibers. To impart the required properties to the packing, various types and types of impregnations, inhibitors, antifriction and lubricating components can be used.

- Asbestos-free stuffing box packing made of synthetic fibers. This type includes packings made of synthetic fibers such as acrylic fiber, polyacrylonitrile fiber. The body of the stuffing box is made of synthetic fiber. There may be a compensating silicone core in the body of the packing. The packing can have a corner braid made of stronger non-asbestos fibers. To impart the required properties to the packing, various types and types of impregnations, inhibitors, antifriction and lubricating components can be used. It would be correct to refer to the type of synthetic special fibers as aramid fibers, such as Nomex, Kevlar and Twaron, but due to the unique properties of these fibers, stuffing boxes made of them are very widespread, they are in demand in many areas of industry, which made it possible to distinguish them into a separate type.

- Asbestos-free stuffing box packing made of natural fibers. This type of packing is made from natural, bio-derived plant fibers. For the production of stuffing boxes from natural fibers, the most widely used fibers are: linen, cotton, jute, bast and ramie (Chinese nettle). Stuffing boxes from plant fibers are often produced without the use of additional combinations with other fibers. To give the packing the required properties, various types and types of impregnations, inhibitors, antifriction and lubricating components can be used, such as: fatty natural oils, synthetic emulsions and solutions, polytetrafluoroethylene and silicone impregnations and fillers, oil extracts, etc. these natural packings are subjected to graphite impregnation (saturation).

- Asbestos-free carbon fiber packing. Carbon packings are made by carbonation of polyacrylonitrile, cellulose hydrate fibers and petroleum bitumen. Carbon fiber is used to produce combined gland packing in combination with aramid, PTFE and graphite yarns. More often, carbon packings are mono packing, woven of carbon or carbonized fiber with graphite impregnation and impregnation with silicone or fluoroplastic suspension.

- Asbestos-free stuffing box packing made of aramid (Kevlar) fibers. Aramid - aromatic polyamide - polyparaphenylene terephthalamide, synthetic fiber with high mechanical and thermal strength. Packings made from aramid yarns have unique mechanical properties. The aramid fiber group includes Nomex, Kevlar and Twaron fibers. Aramid packing is not reinforced, since aramid fibers have high tensile strength, depending on the brand, the tensile strength of aramid fibers can range from 280 to 550 kg / mm² (for steel, for comparison, this parameter is in the range of 50-150 kg / mm²) ... For special operating conditions, the packing can have a corner braid made of softer non-asbestos fibers (polytetrafluoroethylene, thermally expanded graphite). To impart the required properties to the packing, various types of impregnations, inhibitors, antifriction and lubricating components can be used.

- Asbestos-free stuffing box packing made of mineral fibers. This type of packing includes ceramic fiber and glass fiber packing and combinations thereof. Mineral fiber stuffing boxes occupy a special place among packings made of various organic and inorganic fibers. Ceramic and fiberglass packings have high temperature resistance (ceramic packings up to 1400 ° C), low density and low thermal conductivity. These gland packing have high insulating properties and belong to the group of non-combustible materials. To impart the required properties to the packing, various types and types of impregnations, inhibitors, antifriction and lubricating components can be used.

- Asbestos-free combined stuffing box packing. This packing is made from several types of fibers, for example a combination of carbon and aramid, using approximately the same amount of both aramid and carbon fibers. In this case, it is not possible to determine whether this packing belongs to aramid or carbon. In this case, the stuffing box packing is referred to as the combined type.
